Northern California - Cantelow this weekend

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Edited: Ride is Sunday.
So I had an idea. Start in Winters in the parking lot next to Steady Eddie's. Maybe even meet for breakfast at 8am. Then ride a loop out, up Cantelow on the harder side (which I have yet to do), and back to Winters. Then turn around and ride the same loop the other way. Lunch at Steady Eddie's post ride.
That'll go over Cantelow twice, once from each direction. I figure 45 to 50 miles on a guess, maybe one of you will know better. And a reasonable amount of climbing.
Anyone interested in joining me?

Sunday? Did you say Sunday?
Chris has to attend fire school this weekend, and I have our club party on Saturday, but Sunday I can do.
I see that having a new cluster has made you ambitious...;)

Be flexible about parking - rode into Winters last Sunday, and the 4 way stop on that corner was fenced up and torn up! The parking lot by the park across from Steady Eddies was fine.
edit: Oh, and I'd join you but I'll be riding in from Fairfield-Suisun and marking the roadways for you'all when you ride the Foxy! :D
Sunday is fine. And yeah, that new cassette made a big difference.
That sounds awesome but unfortunately I'm out of town this weekend :(

I have to work on Saturday so I'm out. Need a day with the kiddos. Foxy's next Saturday though! Woo Hoo! Goal is sub-6 hours.

Sounds fun, but not with my 12-23 ...
Deb, how's 8:30 work for you?

Gives me 1/2 hour extra sleeping time. ;)
Looks like it'll be a bit breezy tomorrow. Should make for an interesting ride. I took a short 15 mile spin this afternoon. It was windy, but manageable.

Put me down as a maybe....depending on the headwind to Winters. I'll be riding in from Fairfield.
Scott, what's a little headwind? It'll be like climbing a long shallow climb. No problem!

I'm in, but I'll drive to the start. See you at 8:30

Kameo and I decided last night to ride to the start. We left at 8:05 and arrived at Steady Eddie's at 8:50. Bah-ru-tal headwinds. My speed didn't get above 14 mph. Kameo's back has been hurting and the strain of riding into the unrelenting headwind made it worse. We indulged in a mocha and split a cranberry/coconut baked goodie before we got back on the road. With the tailwind we rode back to my house at about 30 mph with barely any effort. Sweet!
We'd hoped to run into you guys at some point, but obviously not.
How was your ride? ;)
The ride was hard. We missed you by about 5 minutes, hoping to see you on the way out. We headed out at 8:45. The ride up and over Cantelow wasn't too bad, though I did have to stop once on the way up to catch my breath. The cold air made it much harder to breathe than I expected.
The ride back was brutal. We were quite literally down to 8 mph, and there wasn't much draft to be had into the wind.
We only did one loop. The wind was just too strong. Coffee and a 2nd breakfast after. Try again when it's not so windy! Scott took a few pictures, so he'll get those up when he has a chance.

I am glad we both decided against the second loop. I was happy just to get back to Winters along 505. It was great riding with you as always.

I took off my jacket for the climb. Fighting the wind kept me warm (edit: Holy Crap! where's my gut?):

We should have followed instructions, the wind was brutal:

Thanks for posting the pictures Scott! That was a real tough ride, and certainly qualifies as "HTFU."

That's what Kameo & I told each other on the ride to Winters. The wind blew hard, and harder. We were surprised at how it made us feel like newborn kittens. :notamused:

You can ride Peaceful Glen. It isn't as bad as the sign would have you think. Come ride Cantelow, Nico, it'll make Twin Sisters look like a bump. ;)

Are you guys going again soon? (sorry if I missed it in another forum thread). Also... Twin Sisters??? I don't know anything about it! :)
