Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - YouTube in SIG

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just added a text link to my YouTube video to my SIG.
Instead of the text showing up, a miniature embedded YouTube player appears.
That would be OK with me--but the SIG area isn't tall enough to accomodate it.
Thanks.

Hi, noteon.
It seems that the administrator set it up so that valid Youtube videos automatically embed in the post or signature. I found that the way to disable that is by disabling vB code parsing so that it displays anything you type in between as straight text.
Use the
YOUTUBE LINK tags.
Hope that helps!
Thanks, MrCrassic.
Now I'm actually wondering if there's a way the SIG area can accommodate it. I mean, it's a really cool feature to have video in a SIG, but since it plays right there, seeing half the video getting cut off kind of sucks. Any idea?

The sig area is size-limited by the Admins/Tech people. The reasoning behind doing so, as I understand it, was to avoid having people with hugely tall sigs, thus causing a lot of scrolling. A few other boards I visit do the same thing.
It seems to me that only a few more pixels would allow the YouTube player to function correctly. Any idea who I should contact? (Or is this the place to say it?)

Keep in mind that some browsers autoplay embedded videos even if you set them not to, and that slows down page loading a lot.

Well crap.
Thanks--I hadn't thought of that. Text linking it is...
This doesn't work:
(noparse)(url="blahblah")Click this text!(/url)(/noparse)
Is there a way to make a text link that isn't the YouTube URL?

Try tinyurl.com. This thread's URL, for example, condenses down to http://tinyurl.com/4sunhv
I use tinyurl.com all the time, and I'd never have thought of that. Thanks, Neil.

Don't use the Embed thread, use the URL.

Well then, you definitively know it doesn't work right.
