Mountain Biking - I went and got me a new bike =D

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I went and rode a couple of bikes at the LBS, and i settled on the 03 Gary Fisher Tarpon. It felt awesome and shifted well. It had the same componets are the Wahoo but it didnt have a adjustable front fork plus it was $100 less. Im not going to be doing any hardcore off-roading, just some trail riding with friends. Im mainly a roadie, but im excited about this new bike!

Congrats Hammer. The Marlin is a good bike for the money. As you may already know, there is a break in period for new bikes and that "Good Shifting" will begin to suffer in just a couple of weeks. The reason, the cables have to go through their initial "stretch". Your shop should've given you a free tune-up!

ARgh! That was the reason why my gears shifted well in all areas, but after a lot of riding to Sunnybrook and bak to Dawes Road (about 5 trips already) the shifting on gear 1 on the rear, the chain is like riding on the edge and not on the gear, Im getting a tune-up l8r, our lbs does em for free...:D
even with normal wear you should be able to shift on all your gears, well that was the case with my shimano deore, I only had to reajust it every 2-3 months (riding everyday).
On the other hand when I had those grip****, I had to reajust the cables like every week.

Dude, you caught that! I saw it, and was going to edit it and got distracted! Man, a guy can't ever get a break around here when Klein's on patrol!
