General Cycling Discussion - Does anyone love their LBS like me?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I love Discovery Bike's on Anderson Lane in Austin, Tx!
Those are the most helpful bunch in the entire world!...i have been to other bike shops, bucks bikes, bicycle sport shop etc. etc. and they are jerks in there. But I just want to show some love for Discovery Bikes and the guy that helps me in there, Alex......Anyone else have a great bike shop?

I'm cool with mine. They call me by my first name....... like my LB, & my LCH do.
While we're patting our LBS on the back, let me add "Bikes & Berries" in Denver, CO. Very cool group of people who really try to get to know their customers and are less concerned with profit and more concerned about getting riders onto the right bike, setting it up correctly, etc.

My LBS is great, the guys are a bit odd, as most fanatical shopkeepers seem to be, but they're endlessly helpful and nice, they are major bike nuts (enough to restore an 1880 mini Penny Farthing-type thing, amoungst many others), they stock all kinds of cool and crazy stuff that no-one else around has even heard of, they just rock. So major props to Mick and Tony at Madggetts Cycles in Diss :)
My other favorite shops is Cehlmer Cycles in Chelmsford. I was there at uni for a while, the guy Matt in the MTB side (there were two seperate shops) was real cool, always proclaiming that singlespeed is 'the one true f*ckin' way' (which it probably is) :) And he had the cutest little dog too. The other guys were great too.

Nope. I haven't found one I consistently go to. They all have things I buy from them or get service of. I tried going to one consistently and found they were only reasonably priced for half the work I needed.
yup, Richardson Bike Mart any of the 3 locations.
great service, good stock very helpful and knowledgable
staff.

Yep I love mine...Bicycle Shack in Kansas City. Terrific guys and the service is great. I am thankful I got hooked up with them after hearing some of the horror stories of people on here about their experiences.

I to enjoy my LBS I love the internet and the deals you can get but I think more people need to support there local shops. Even though you usually cant get as good of a deal at your LBS as lets say Nashbar at first but once you get to have a good relationship with your LBS you will start seeing the same type saving and as a bonus lets not forget the importance of supporting local businesses.
Reckless bike in Victoria BC (canada), great staff very helpful even if you don't look like you have $$$ they've been doing pretty much everything to help me so far.

I like cheese.
Bike Barn in Houston, Brandon at the West Houston one is really cool and will bend over backwards to make sure you are a satisfied customer. When I think of customer service, he always comes to mind.

Jeffs Bike Shop in Huntington WV is the only place in the area I go to. Excellent guys, excellent service, it's a very very nice shop. Their prices are very good too. And everyone who works there rides, and either does or used to race.

I like my LBS. We ahve performance and supergo and a few privately owned "mom & pop" shops. Some of the smaller shops are ok but performance is by far my favorite. They have great service, fair prices and the people there, for the most part, are friendly.

I also vote for the Richardson Bike Mart. In fact, I still mail order from them if I have an obscure need I can't find on-line (new Athena 1" threaded headset, etc.). They are so friendly, knowledgeable and competent that they put all other bike shops I've been in to shame. Especially here in South Jersey. I've tried our local guys, but they all have an agenda other than helping the customer. Rude, arrogant, know-it-all, just give me your money type folks. If they don't have it on the shelf or if you are not willing to pay several thousand $$ for whatever you need then they don't have time for it. Last week I went in to see about buying a set of wheels from one of them. While they did manage to contact the company about same several days later he did manage to let me know that as a new customer he was getting the first set at a great promotional price of 50% off. However, he was keeping that for himself and would be selling me a set at full retail. Ring, ring, ring.....hello RBM. I'd like to mail-order a new set of wheels.
Also some kudo's for Glory Cycles. Clive, their owner, is also very helpful and goes out of his way to provide good service. They have a large on-line business at glorycycles.com

Funny that you would post this in a thread about LBS loyalty
but jump all over someone for mentioning TotalCycling and
sign your response "your LBS".
It might be sacrilege to say this, but actually, the REI that I got my bike at was extremely helpful. I didn't show any signs that I actually wanted to buy, but they showed me tons of different models, explained some details about the bikes, answered my questions thoroughly, and basically treated me like a person. Never did they patronize me or not answer my questions. The best part was when they let me test ride their bikes, basically handing me a new model of the one I wanted and letting me go, without any time/distance/location restrictions. It was great.
I'm not sure if other REI's were like this, but the one I went to had a pretty large bike workshop, if a somewhat smaller selection of bikes. It was almost like they had a mini-LBS implanted into the side of their store.

I used to be a regular at an LBS and I always got a 10 percent discount and bought everything there. But then it was bought by a bigger chain and "my guy" quit ... However, I can't emphasize enough the worth of a good LBS contact, both for bikers and for the LBS (since loyal customers are good customers).

My favorite LBS is Calhoun Cycle in South Minneapolis, they are like family and they usually carry everylittle weird thing that I'm looking for (unlike most of the bike shops in our area). I also have to give a plug for Freewheel Bike also in Minneapolis, same story.

The "Bike Stand" shop in Olympia, WA is outstanding. The owner, Bill Stevenson, is a top notch custom frame builder, who always has time for little guys like me. He always comes through with parts and his mechanic Cory inspires confidence with his good natured outlook on life. I really appreciate them whenever I run into something beyond my abilities to fix. I have to agree with RBM but want to also add Plano Cycles to the list. They (Plano) have been the most consistant with helping me with warranty issues and just all around going out of their way to help out.

I second all that; besides, with some items after shipping costs, it's close to even.
My shops have always gone out of their way to be competitive, and I'm
comfortable asking dumb mechanical questions.
