Im talking about V brake pads. Not disk or cantilever, but v brake. Im asking 2 questions.
1)How can you tell if a brake pad is bad (e.g. lots of rubber on rims after few uses) and what makes a good brake pad good/what are its advantages?
2)What are some good brake pad brands and where can I get them? I live in toronto...

I have heard good things about Kool Stop brake pads. Never used the product myself, but they are widely reccomended. Go to www.koolstop.com and you will find the brake pad. Here's a complete listing of international Kool Stop dealers: http://www.koolstop.com/Intl.html

Not sure how you can tell if a brake pad is bad or not though.

The best and longest lasting brake pads we've ever used are the Scott/Matthauser pads. Hard to come by and a bit pricey . . . about $16+ a pair. Work equally well in wet or dry conditions. Call S/M Corp. in USA: (208) 726-5432; address Box1333, Sun Valley, Idaho 83353
One pair lasted us 50,000 miles (right amount of zeros!) on the rear wheel of our tandem.
We live in Arizona and no, Arizona is NOT flat!
