Bicycle Mechanics - chainring hits frame

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I just got a new BB for an old frame, screwed it in and put the cranks on. But when I screwed the bolts in to the square tapers to keep the cranks on and the chainring was stuck up against the frame. What's can I do about that?

You need a bottom bracket with a longer spindle, probably 8mm or so longer. What BB did you buy and what crank do you have?

You can buy the proper length bb, which is very likely longer than what you currently have.

be aware that a lot of older cranksets use asymmetrical BB spindles with the longer end on the right. Make sure the new one you get matches the one you took off.
