Anyone know if 700c Nokian Hakkapeliitta W106 45mm will fit a Surly CrossCheck? I'm sure the 35s will fit... wondering if anyone has experience with the wider ones.

Ideally I'd like to keep my fenders on.

I've run the 35 mm W106 on my CrossCheck for the past three winters, lots of room.
While I have not put on the 45 mm W106, 47 mm Schwalbe Marathons do fit, but I didn't try them with fenders- probably a tight fit.

I'm not sure if they'd fit, but sorry to answer your question with a question but why go with the 45mm Nokians?

You may have totally different conditions than I do but I run the 35mm Nokian W106's on my Cross Check in Minnesota winters. I've never once thought they needed to be wider. They have plenty of traction, and they are plenty hard enough to pedal all winter long. Wider just wouldn't be an advantage to me.

I just started asking myself the same question last night. I'm planing to spend my stimulus check on winter bike stuff and try to beat the winter this year. I was leaning to the 35's just because I figured I'd have a better chance of keeping my fenders.

Apart from that have you thought about your rim width? The rims I was planning to use are 22.5 mm, I'm too lazy to take the tires off just to find out the interior width and can't find the information on the web. I'm guessing about 19 mm interior and from Sheldon's chart (http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html) I'd be just starting to push the limit with the 45s.
