I'm set on racing the 24-Hours of Mohican in September of 2009. I'll be doing a lot of multi-day and stage races next year on my new Road Racing team as a semi-pro, so coming up with form will not be an issue. I'll be able to do this race with no real physical problems.
I want to enter the two-man team event, so 6 hours on, 6 hours off and repeat.

What do I need to know to be able to do this race and possibly win it?

eat lots, bring extra batteries for your light, drink lots, starbucks double shots will keep you movin.

and have fun, although having a bad time is pretty much impossible at a 24 hr mtb race

Was it the Mohican Wilderness trail or the 24 mile Mohican trail?
I havne't ridden Wilderness yet, but I've been to the big loop numerous times and it gets better every time I go.

Does anyone have some suggestions for good, lightweight lighting systems? I'm thinking that I should have a helmet/handlebar combo.

i think it was the wilderness trail because it wasnt a 24 mile loop but its been a while...

Im running a light and motion stella and i really like it, their are better light systems out there but for $200 you get a light that is pretty bright, not too heavy, and runs on high for 5 hrs per charge.

if money is no object the i would get the light and motion seca 700 ultra though...its stupid bright, lasts just as long and charges fully in 3 hrs

I can get my lights at cost, so I'll have to see what manufacturers I can get. And I just double checked; it is the Wilderness trail.

I have done a few 2 man 24 hour races.

I would suggest doing 3-4 hour rides at night so that you each can get a couple of hours of sleep.

And after this, you will want to do a solo 24 hour.

getting lights at cost defintally goes a long way...i actually am lucky enough to work in a shop so i get the same deal. Would have liked to go with a really high end light but working in a shop causes this weird problem where you cant save money and any disposable income is converted directly into bike parts.

Anyways if you get stuff at cost quality can get almost every manufactor out there and 99% of shops seem to use quality so you should have a good selection
