Can a campy power train work with a Shimano rear hub? If so, what special step do I need to do to make them work?

Opinion on that differ, both between riders and which version you're using. Some have reported acceptable performance straight off when mixing Campy 10 and Shimano 10 once they've found the right chain to use.
One option is to use a device called a shift mate. It looks much like the Travel Agent and it changes the amount of cable pull to get a perfect match.
Another option is to get a custom cassette that use the spacers from one system together with the sprockets from another.

Sticking a shimano wheel in a campy setup yields an ok set up. Its not perfect but acceptable for the time being. I would recommend getting a shiftmate though

Shiftmate works fine or the wheels Man. cassette is also a good alternative.. The American Classic Cassette gives you mediocre shifting..

you can use the B-routing method for a 10sp campy shifter with shimano RD and a shimano 9sp cassette. http://www.hubbub.com/articles_ergopower.html

I tried a Shimano 10sp wheel/cassette with Campy Chorus and it worked OK, but ultimately I went back to my Campy wheel. There was always one gear that it would skip no matter how I adjusted it. I could have all the small cogs work well and the big ones would chatter or skip, or I could have the big cogs work well and the small would chatter. I could even get the middle to work, but then the outside cogs wouldn't. I never tried the Shiftmate as I wanted to be able to use my Campy wheels too. The good thing about the Shimano wheel was how quiet it was. Campy wheels are very noisy.
