So my 2005 Specialized Enduro Comp is making a sqeaking noise. I have narrowed it down to the saddle or seatpost collar (it's not the saddle as I just switched it out for one I know is good. Anyway from what I have read on MTBR.com both of these parts are problem areas on this bike. Is there anything I can do to fix this should I try to grease the collar or something? Eventually I will probably just replace both parts as deals come along but am looking for a temporary solution till then. Also with the seapost collar how do I know what size I need? The bike has a 30.9 Seatpost. Thanks for any and all help/suggestions.
I had a similar problem on and much cheaper bike and a light layer of grease everywhere fixed it.

I'd start by making sure the seat binder bolt(s) are tight. Those are the ones that hold the seat to the post. Make sure they're hecka tight. If that doesn't work a little bit of grease between any parts that contact a different part.
As for replacing, Thomson seatpost's are the best. (http://www.lhthomson.com/elite_features.htm)
Thomson usually does contract machining for companies like Boeing and Ford.

I have a 2003 Enduro that had this problem- grease the collar (and under the collar) and the collar bolt and grease the seatpost. I also had trouble with the seatpost slipping no matter how tight I cranked the collar and bolt down.
I switched to a Thomson post and a Salsa collar and never had any trouble after that!

Yeah I have Thomson posts on all my other bikes so that is most likely what will be going once I get the cash. My main question is what size collar I should order when I get a replacement. Salsa Fliplocks come in 28.6, 30.0, 30.6, 32.0, 35.0 or 36.4mm sizes and Hope Collars come in 28.6, 31.08, 34.9, and 36.4.
