General Cycling Discussion - Fixing a bike at school...i can't hold it up!

I'm just wondering, if there's an easy way to fix my bike? Because the only time i get to learn how to do stuff on my bike is during the summer when i'm home, but this summer i'll be staying on campus in my apartment. IS their a way to hang it up without really messing up the paint on my wall or putting a hole in it? I was thinking of getting the "J" shaped things and screwing it in my ceiling, but than my ceiling is VERY high, so i wouldn't be able to switch gears or nething lol What do you guys do? It's so hard to fiddle around with stuff when the wheels are on the ground, and i'm not that great at fiddling around yet while my bike is upside down... i'm still newbish. And plus, the bike shops here suck ass. I know a few people in the mountain bike club who hate the shops here, cuz they got jipped big time, like breaking parts that weren't broken b4 and than putting new ones on and charging for it. Buy a bike repair stand, they have 'em at MEC for $115. I haven't seen any used ones around, but for the price of 2 or 3 LBS rips, you can have your own stand. The other alternative is join a co-op, there are a few in downtown Toronto. Does your school have a bike co-op? MacMaster University has one, it's only $5 for students to join, free access to tools and discount on parts, it's a good deal.

id say go with the $115 stand from MEC. Im planning on getting it next week. Its Park so you cant really go wrong.

check ebay, I have seen stands for less than $50 every now and then, if not get a trainer, one that locks the front forks down and has a riser for the bottom bracket, that way you can work on the bike , use it for a stand or a trainer, 3 items into one :D

Yah, i looked at a bike repair stand, but the things are kinda big and i would have problems after my term to bring it back home..etc... Yup, i'm a member of University of Waterloo bike club, but the bike centre hours suck this term. Only 2 days, and those days i have classes and night labs...agh......I'm gonna look into a trainer...see what the price are for those :)
