info at link below, I gather the 1992 designation surfaced around the time the European Union came into being, but I'm curious whether the Regina America 1992 8-spd freewheel is Italian or English thread.

For freewheels (and the corresponding hubs) English and Italian threads can be used interchangably as the diameter and thread pitch are the same. They do differ in "thread form" with English threads having a 60° apex angle while Italian threads are 55°.

So, switching back and forth repeatedly is not recommended but, if you switch from Italian to English (or vise-versa) once and use the same type for it's replacement, they will work fine.
