Mountain Biking - Old School MT Biking

Anyone remember the good old days back in the 80's when Mt biking was going out for hours with one water bottle an no extra parts, no food bad shoes and neon lycra....
first bike was a 1985 beast of the east c-dale

In the '80s, mountain bikers were a handful of goofy-looking dudes trying to play dirt bike as I blasted by them on my IT Yamaha :lol:

I was riding my 250 Husky before there were Mtn bikers! Man, I'm old...:-0

Huskies were my dream bike -- especially when I was wallowed in a sand wash and 20 miles from the next checkpoint.

I was riding the Weaselhead on a ****ty 10-speed while all you guys were wimping out on your motorized thingies. Yes, I've been drinking.

Why only the 80's? Mountain bikes may not have appeared till the 80's but early 60's and we were riding the hills on our 3 speed Sturmey archer Tourers. Couple of mods to the bike but no Mudgaurds and tyres with as many Knobbles on as possible. Of course this was solely a Summer acticity as Winter bought too much mud. Then got the First MTB in 90. What a change. Chromoly frames that didn't break when you hit a rock. Wheels that stayed in one piece and nearly round for the downhills. Only thing was the 18 speed gearing still didn't give a low enough gear for the steep hills.

Back in the 70's I rode trails on my dad's '53 Raleigh sports with the enclosed chainguard. Thing is built like a tank. I still have it.

Back in the '20s we would shred the gnar with no tires,just a couple of old wagon wheel attached to a 2x4 and a rigid handle that didn't steer. No brakes,and old mining helemet with a oil lamp on the front and dirty overalls...........yeah,those were the days.

I had the Husky from '75-'78. June '74 I bought a new Bultaco 250 Pursang, which was fast as hell, and a lot of fun. But the low pipe limited it, especially as we had to cross RR tracks when ditching the cops.

Before that, we invented the wheel. ;-)

I wanted a Husky bad. But then the YZs' Elsinores' and RMs' came out and the Huskys faded into history. I went with the RMs'. 250 and 370.
