Please give me your unbiased opinion about which is the better bike.

2001 Bianchi XL Boron frame with carbon fork, 105 groupo, and Shimano R540 wheelset

or

2004 Trek 2200, OCLV Carbon frame, Bontrager Carbon fork, Bontrager Race wheelset, and Shimano Ultegra crank and rear derailur (basically a stock 2200).

What bike would you want and what would you pay?

Thanks, Ron

Which one is more comfortable? Thats all that really matters.

note that the trek is not all carbon. it just has a carbon rear triangle. agree comfort's most important, but you're getting a better grouppo with the trek.

Both good bikes. Fit and being compy and you pick that one. I would'nt get either.

Would I be better off with an aluminum frame then, or is the steel alloy Bianchi frame decent? I am looking to do some Sprint distance Tri's, but don't won't to get a Tri specific bike. What do you think?

Both are excellent but clearly not the same. Test ride them to see which one "feels" better.

I think the 2200 is about $1750 and Trek has the 5000 that is only $2000 bucks, not that far from the 2200 your talking about. Its the standard OCLV frame but lesser components. Hey, one ride on a OCLV and I bet your question is answered, or at least that was the case for me, you owe it to yourself to try one, they are like no other.

Get the one with the STEEL frame. :D

Does anyone buy steel frames anymore? :p

Dont know much about the Bianchi but my wife rides a Trek 2300 and loves it. It seems very well made and is a good looker too. But of course most of all is for you to ride it and see how it feels to YOU.

I have a Bianchi Giro, and love the thing, this may sound like a stupid reason for loving my bike as much as i do, No one has the damn thing. I like Saying ohh ya check this bad boy out.........

Isn't the phrase "...unbiased opinion" an oxymoron?

no it is not.

I just sold my '97 Cannondale road bike an got a early '90s Bianchi Campione. After riding my Bianchi Strada on a longish ride, I was convinced about the steel. My bottom never numbed up like it did on the Cannondale.

Test ride both and decide which you prefer. The opinions of a bunch of people online shouldn't matter-you're the one buying the bike. That being said, here's my $.02:
Steel is your friend. Bianchis are not nearly as common as Trek-to me this is a positive, to others a negative.

Both are good bikes but I would go with the 2200 (I actually did for my bike this year) I've had a couple of steel bikes in the past and wanted to try an aluminum frame this year. So far I'm really liking my 2200, it's light, fast and responsive. It isn't harsh at all, but it isn't as smooth as my old steel frames either. I like the mostly Ultegra drivetrain better as well. Overall you can't go wrong, but I like the 2200 better (though the Bianchi is appealing just because it's a Bianchi, always have had a soft spot for those ugly celeste bikes :))

NO ..NO...NO... Don't change your name. Please keep it. We don't want to see a bianchi rider ride a trek bike. :D :D :D Wanted to ride a bianchi but i can't do it now after all said and done. Both bikes are great. Just find out what's best for you. Most bianchis come with campy components and all trek bikes come with shimano. Find out which bike fits you well and which componentry you like best. REMEMBER, YOU'RE THE ONE RIDING YOUR BIKE NOT MEMBERS IN THIS FORUM. Just make the best choice.

It's made by TACX. Very light only 37g for $13.00 each. It's also used by Tyler Hamilton during the 2003 tour de france.

Nice ride, I have those Tacx cages on my 2200, they are nice and look great!

At the LBS I work for we just got in some unused USPS team frames (as in USPS logos, number hanger, fully faced, chain suck protector under the paint, upgraded fork) that we heard were destined for the tour before they switched and took Madones instead. We just finished building one up with full Record for a customer and I have to say, it's a beauty!!! Now we just need to figure out what to do with that silly Shimano sticker on the chain stay. You don't see many Treks with Campy.
