I'm taking my Swift to Montreal tomorrow, on the Amtrack Adirondack line.

There is no facility for non-folding bicycles on that line. No fold, no take bike.

Yep... I ride Amtrak every week. The other bonus is that you don't have to pay the bike fee. :)

So how do you get a decent seat on a sold-out train if you're spending your first few boarding minutes dealing with the bike?

Well... my bike is a BF Tikit. I slide it right in with the rest of the luggage and sit down. Depends on the train though. Here in the midwest, most of the trains have some kind of open luggage space that you can stow the bike.

Ah, thanks. I think I still had my last bike/train ride in my head. It was a non-folding bike, and I had to wheel it over to the luggage car, deal with it there, and then try to find a seat after everyone else was already seated. I guess if the Swift is already folded on the platform, I can just stow it and sit down.

Thanks.

Wasn't there some giant multi-page thread on the advantages of folders? I'm looking for it b/c I'm trying to sell a co-worker on getting a folding bike. I tried the search function above, but nada.

Can anyone point me the in right direction?

Poutine and Montreal smoked meat. Yum!

I found out recently that poutine was actually a thing in New York City for a while, only they called it "disco fries."

Also one of the main reason I use a folder is so I can dump it on the way to a seat rather than deal with putting the bike in luggage and miss getting a seat on the train.
