Probably will be doing that one. Whether this year or the next I don't know. Depends on the weather (which is really nice, actually)

Take highway 96 west past the reservoir to Wetmore. From there you can turn left and take Hardscrabble Pass into Westcliffe. The pass is about 9000 ft, the grade is quite mellow, and the View of the Sangre de Christo range is spectacular.
The other ride would be to turn right at Wetmore and ride into Florence and Canon City. I think that from P-town to Canon City that way is about 35 miles one way.
A ride out highway 78 to Beulah is also nice if the traffic is light. Get a good county map, because there are some smaller paved roads to take back to town, I just can't remember what the road numbers are, but you see what I'm talking about on the map.

I usually ride south of town to Stem Beach. Over the bridge (I-25) to Lime Rd. I think. Usually dink around out on the mesa for awhile. If you ever see an old guy on a blue Cannondale Crit bike that's me. Another dead give away is I'm just about the slowest moving thing out there.
I just checked out that map. Number 3 (power plant loop) is what I usually ride. Very light traffic wise. If anyone come here and does this ride be advised that there is a shooting range near the power plant on this road. Don't flip out if you hear gun shots. Just last Sunday I rode past a nice group of Pronghorns off to the side of that road. Especially nice in June when the sunflowers are blooming. See you out there.
