I have an older Dura ace 6 speed wheel set with Biopace on the front and when I pedal it backwards, it seems to be rough. When I lift the chain off the cassette, it is very smooth. Could the rear derailer be out of alignment? It looks straight and inline. I've played many times with r/d adjustments and it doesn't help.
Any thought or things to check would be of great help since I am very new to any type of maintenence.
Thanks

So how's it feel when you pedal it frontwards? That's the way it's designed to go. If it feels OK in normal use, then it isn't broken and I'd leave it alone.

It doesn't seem to bind, but it makes noise that sounds a little different then my other bikes and doesn't sound real good... My LBS will check it out for me, but I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts of a simple fix I don't know about.
Thank you

If it's that old, it could be wear on the chainring teeth, wear on the cog teeth, chain "stretch" (wear, actually), or any combination of the above.
