Usually when i install a race crown, i waste about 30 mins just tapping it in wiht a screw driver. For my current fork i decided to try new methods. I put a thin thin layer of grease on the steerer tube and used PVC pipe. It only took aobut 10 seconds for the race to settle on to the crown. Can anyone esplain this? Is it because of the grease?, the PVCpipe? or its a different fork with a different headset?
Thanks. I am baffled by this. It feels like Ive wasted so muhc time before when i could have just done it like this.

It is the pipe, it lets it go on square and you drive the whole thing on rather than angling it it on a bit at a time. In the shop I use a steel tube with a brass collar on the end of it, made by Brinelli.

Good question, about 25.8 id for the one inch driver and 29 id for the one and 1/8 driver. But if yo are going to just do it once, go to the scrap bin at your local homestore with the fork and find a piece of pvc that is close.
