I am going to run campy ergo levers with a shimano 9 speed mtn bike derailleurs on new tandem build. The derailleurs have not been purchased yet so anything is possible. I have both 9 & 10 speed Record ergo levers available. The 10 speed levers are 3-4 years old the 9 speed 7-9 years old. I would appreciate any input on best possible combination.

Anybody have input on the da Vinci modified Sram derailleurs

I'm using Chorus 10 levers with the DaVinci modified X-9 RD and 9-spd SRAM 11-32.

Works great, just make sure you use the adjustable cable stops (if you have a threaded boss rather than braze-on stops) or in the other case use a barrel adjuster. I say this just because the SRAM RD has no adjuster on it, so it's hard to get the cable adjust just perfectly without something.

But again, after dialing it in, it works great! I am using a Campy Comp Triple FD and DaVinci cranks.

A twist of the cable is all it takes...

JTek sells a gizmo you attach to the Shim rear der. Works fine.

I've run Record 10 levers and Shimano 9 speed XTR (old style) rear derailleur for years using the alternative cable routing at the attachment point of the rear derailleur as noted in the post above. Has worked flawlessly for 4 years now.

Before getting SRAM 10 speed cassette, I ran Campy 10 speed shifters with Shim 9 speed road stuff by mounting cable on wrong side of der bolt(Sheldon Brown lists this trick I believe). It worked very well. I assume this would also work with mtn derailleurs. Worst case you try it first and if the shift performance sucks you can cough up the $30 for a J-tek Shiftmate later.

Talk to Brian at Hubub. He builds tandems with Campy/Shimano mix. Hubub was in this months issue of Bicycling magazine as one of a few Bicycle Boutiques in the country.

When using campy 10 speed shifters with shimano 9 speed mtn derailer does it matter if you use the old style 10 speed shifters or the newer "QS" models?

A Campy Comp Triple rear derailleur works fine with a Shimano/SRAM 9-speed cassette. Even though Campy specifies a maximum cog size of 29 teeth, mine works great with a SRAM 11-32 cassette.
