to all you singlespeeders with track ends...on my bianchi siss there are 2 tug nuts...overkill, or absolutely necessary?

dont really ride off road..

p.s. just picked up some conti slicks for my siss...looking forward to commuting tomorrow...now, all I need is a 42 chainring and im golden...

Get a set of proper track nuts from Harris Cyclery and you should need exactly 0 tugs. Less parts is better.

I know that...but I was curious if there was a difference for SS/offroad applications...

Off roaders can benefit from two, because they stop either end of the axle moving forwards (less chance of wheel getting knocked from a hard hit). But one is always advisable for road riders, it makes setting chain tension soooooooooooo much easier. I can understand Familyman's point of view, but a chain tug is hardly a major component, and it can't exactly go wrong. But track nuts, yes.

Agree. I just got two of the Surly's and it is much less frustrating getting things lined up.

I have seen it done with the dual-screw variety where the tension screws rely on the bend in the dropout to maintain axle position. I just can't dig up the pciture of it.
Ask the Fixer...he knows almost everything.
