i have always been a mountain biker. but after today riding my first road bike, i am hooked. it was so smooth and quiet. and with clipless pedals you can fly! im definately never riding a mountain bike on the road again. i can really see why you road bikers bike so much and how they can go for so long. i just want to say that im officially a road rider.

Welcome to the "club" Be careful out there not just of the cars, but of how long you will want to spend.
What are you riding?

I'm also a mountain biker turned road biker... or at least that particular door swings both ways. I tried the shaving thing once... even before I got heavily into road riding but just couldn't be bothered to keep up with it. Hell, I tend to go days without shaving my face if I don't have to show myself outside my house although my wife refuses to give me any smoochies until I do.

ive already trimmed the legs. i just could never keep up with shaving them all the time. im also only 15, so freaks my age will call me "gay" or whatever.
for the record i rode a cannondale r600. it was just so amazing. so much different than a mountain bike. i still havent bought one yet, but when it gets warm, i will. i want the r800 mostly because it was the first road bike i saw when i was actually interested in them and i just cant get over how cool the rims look. i know its probably more than i need, but i just know that if i get the r600 and dont opt for the 800, ill hate myself.

I went single track mountain biking once and hated it with a passion. Too much bouncing around.
Ever since it's been nothing but smooth roads for me.

There's not one thing wrong with a R800, or a R600 for that matter. But you might want to ride a few other bikes before you plunk down your hard earned cash. You might find one you like better, and it sounds like you're waiting awhile to make a purchase anyway. If nothing else, it will only confirm that the C-dale is the bike for you. The way the bike fits your body and the way it feels when you ride it are the most important considerations when buying a bike.
Just my $0.02...

I started out mountain biking.. and now am almost a full time roadie (though I still haven't shaved... and don't know if I ever will.. ) ;) Last mtn bike trip was the mckenzie river trail in Oregon which is absoloutely beautiful, but it totally kicked my ass. My technical skills are awful.
