I got meself a foam roller, works really good in finding tight spots
question, is the ideal situation one where you would never find any painful areas after working them out or will there always be places where the roller will be painful ?

i find places get less and less painful (the longer - in weeks and months - as i use the roller), but depending on how much of your weight you support, and how much is on the roller, you may still feel some pain/discomfort. i stay away from full on pain when rollering by adjusting how much of my weight i put on the roller. it all comes down to the pain/discomfort continuum and what feels like what to you, but my advice is to not do anything you would consider "pain", "sweet discomfort" maybe, but not "pain".

to be safe, don't listen to me, the best advice is to ask a PT or doc their opinion, but you probably knew that...

no pain no gain.

the foam roller has greatly reduced my sore muscles after a many hard efforts. plus, it helped me recover from a stressed out IT BAND last winter.

I'm currently undergoing physical therapy for Piriformis Syndrome (aka sore ass/hip). My PT told me lay on that roller and find the points that hurt and then just sit there....hurts like hell! But it is working. I've been doing it for 6 weeks now and I very seldom find sore spots in my hamstring and quads but the IT band still kills! So yes it will go away over time and ideally there should be no sore sports after you become more flexible and you work out the issues.
