Fifty Plus (50+) - Perhaps a silly question from my past experience and habits?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In the early '70s my Zeus was equiped with light weight silks and I always deflated them after every ride. The whys has been lost to time.
I put Tufo Elite Rides on my Raleigh and I love them.:) Question is: What is the proper way to care for them between rides and winter storage? I would assume deflation during storage but things change??

Ozone and sunlight are the enemy of tires. Cool dark places for storage away from pumps, motors and sources of heat.
At least that's the conventional wisdom.

That's basically my current MO (basement), but what about keeping them pressured up?

I find that if still attached to a bike, that flat tires fold over and crack. It may or may not be the right thing to do but I keep my bikes stored with air in the tires. I am not however too upset if they are at half pressure.

A 70's Raleigh with silks, that brings back memories. Do you guys still carry little sewing kits in your pockets? I have explained to my boys the process of fixing a "sew up" and they don't believe me.
