Hi,
This is a Seattle-area question....
I'm wondering why I can't find a good way to get from the Lake Washington waterfront over to the Cedar River Trail -- specifically, over to Cedar River Park in Renton where the trail begins.
If you're coming from (for example) the Lake Washington trail on the east side of Lake Washington I thought the best thing to do was to wind your way over to the Boeing Plant, hook up with the MUP along the Cedar River, and follow it out of Renton until you hit the main part of the trail. However, this portion of the Cedar River Trail is kind of a mess -- it's really a pedestrian path more than a "mixed use" path, and if you're not careful you end up in a couple of "must dismount bike" spots....it kind of peters out in a park on the north side of 405; you have to thread your way across some sidewalks and then eventually cross a freeway access road to get to the park.
Here's the route:

I've also tried to get there on the streets...but I end up on some kind of nasty freeway access roads with traffic coming at me around blind corners.
It's such a short distance (only a few miles)....is there a good way to do it?
(BTW, I don't normally ride paths much, but I've come to really enjoy the Cedar River Trail...once you get a couple of miles outside Renton there is very little traffic, and it's a great way to get out of town quickly to places like Black Diamond, or to make a big loop out to Issaquah and then back toward Seattle. )
