I've just changed my chain (Shimano HG) and cassette (HG30 7 Speed) because I was beginning to get chain slip. Unfortunately this has made matters a lot worse. I was half expecting this as the chainset looks quite worn and is probably not meshing with the new chain. I'm beginning to get a bit of play in the BB so I'm figuring on taking the opertunity to replace it. The question is:
Which BB and Chainset should I go for?
This will be the 3rd BB and 2nd Chainset on my 4 1/2 year old bike which has done about 10K miles so I'm quite destructive on parts. So I'm looking for a very tough BB with a chainset to match
PS its an Acera rear der and Alivio front Der if thats any use.
If you like Shimano, splurge a bit and move up to one of the better lines, such as Dura-Ace, which should prove somewhat tougher than its cheaper equivalents.

Since he's referred to Acera and Alivio, I'm thinking he's a MTB'er. Or it's more of a commuter scooter.
What say McFly, whats the bike?

Sorry I should have said Its a MTB "Commuter Scooter" (I do like that phrase :D ). Radford Xanthos to be precise.
Truvativ ISIS crankset and ISIS bottom bracket. SRAM cassette and chain to match would be the way to go...
I've spoken to mechanics at local LBS's and they say good things about the new-new pipe-style cranks from Shimano, namely the 04 XT and 03 XTR with the new revisions. For a high performance product at very lightweight, it seems like a good buy, IMO. However, I question the longevity of the standard ... such as Octalink, as it has only been around less than a decade (?) and it's now being replaced with the pipe-style.
