Utility Cycling - My New Home built longtail

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just got this bike today from my brother and had an idea. A full suspention long tail, theres two shocks in the rear and front forks, it aint done yet but I made it rideable, it feels so good compaired to other bike, lol
Pics of it just about finished, I used parts from other one to make this, I think it looks pretty nice.

How does it ride? I'd be worried about bottoming out the bottom bracket or chainrings on a hard bump.

Let's see the sag with you sitting on it please. Good work.
The secret to the bike to fix that problem is simple, built it higher off the ground, put a heavyer suspention shock in it and it rides like a normal suspention bike, your weight fixes it, also 3 read derailers help Unfortuintly the suspention triangle I use didn't let me support the thierd shock so theres front and one back, I plan to keep making these unit utilitys, I have Antique shocks from a Bmx motocross that will be installed on the next one I make, the cargo rack will also have suspention, for I am an inventer Muhahaha, but really it's not that hard to do, the whole rack on the back is only attached to the last piece, and it's solid, It hasn't been tested yet so I'm not sure how it will go, tomorow's test is 40k ride.

Looking forward to hearing about your trip. I`we been thinking of longtails w rear suspension but did not go further. Just making what I think I need for myself just now, a bit lazy in the winter I guess. How many do you own now, ridable I mean?
Keep posting, you are for sure a real inventor :thumb:
I own two, they both fold, I make my long tails foldable so I can store them better, the other is in the shed all wrapped up waiting for winter, And the trip, Fail! lol back to the drawing board, the theird shifter isn't holding my chain propper, once thats fixed all will be good, i'm making a very small long tail to lol kids would like them to

Folding is good, I transported my "dogbike" 1000 km this summer hanging on a bikerack behind my car. Strange thing I was not stopped by police. It was sticking out on both sides.
I find making folding longtails from ordinary bikes too much work, so I made one this summer from a detatchable 24" . We are just now struggeling to get hold of pix from a phone and get them into a PC. We`ll try to post soon.
Is the flex (shock absorbers) in your new bike affecting the chain (chain being longer when bike flex)?
It's hard to say, the way I did this with three rear shifters they pull it proper, the only downside is the noise, that many sprockets on a chain start alot of noise lol

And also loosing power maybe?
Here is my latest detatchable. Decided to put a snowboard on it after you decided on a long skateboard on yours :D Just for fun ofcourse.
Sorry for small pix, I`ll post some bigger ones, but maybe only after I did some more work on it..
It is made as a "crank arm and axel all in one piece", think BB housing is 6 cm`s so I need to do some DIY work to put a modern BB cartridge and crank.
Thats pretty cool, So with this suspention longtail, it rides, it's comfy but I stamped it with a big FAIL! lol it shall be taken apart and sold as normal bike, but I have a new idea! A antique longtail! I have something I could use, actualy I have two of them. I wish they where mens but it should be intresting, well aparentley these are unisex.

Mixte frames! I am sure they make great longtails. My son`s yellow longtail is a modern version of mixte. I`we been wery close to using one myself, just want to try out "dogbike2" to see if I can make it with one, if not I am going to make a mixte longtail also.
For sure they are unisex.
Also low standower height is great on a longtail.
They are much stronger than the normal steptrough frames, since they easely bend low down on the seattube.
Go for it!
Sweet, good to hear, it will be a shame to do this, they are both in really good shape, well brown one smoked something hard and the fronts all busted up, i'll start tomorow.
