Hi,
I am thinking of getting a cyclocross and I've been browsing the local craigslist posts and came across this. Is this a good deal, is it worth $650 or should I offer less?
2001 Specialized S-Works M4 CX Cyclocross bike (58/58cm C-C) - $650 (berkeley)

Thanks in advance,

take $500 cash and see what they say...I think you might be able to get more bike for that money ($650) in a different brand. It sounds like this has an older 8 speed set-up.... I think $500 sounds like a good price though..Be SURE you look it over good, especially at ALL the welds for cracking.

I sold mine for about 500 with 9speed and about the same parts if that is any help. I also had a carbon fork on mine.
Despite the poster's assurance that 8 speed is great for cross due to its mud shedding abilities, it's an 8 year old bike. I wouldn't pay more than 400, and that's if it's in great condition, as the seller claims.
But if it is just exactly what you;re looking forfor whatever reason, it may be worth more to you.

I just bought a 2002 Specialized CX for 600, I would be shocked if you could get that bike for less than 600. These guys who say you can buy it for 500 don't know what they are talking about, check out Ebay most decent cx bikes are at least 600, usually much more.

but this isn't ebay which usually is overpriced because people get into a bidding war and emotions take over. All I'm saying is take $500 cash and wave it in front of the guy's face and see what he does...
