I just got a new pair of Shimano M38 shoes to go with my Wellgo SPD pedals. After riding with them for a few days, it appears that I've got too much space above the top of my foot and the top of my shoe (I have very dainty feet - 6 1/5 narrow/38), so if I'm pedaling hard I can actually feel my foot hitting the underside of the top of the shoe (versus being against it all the time as it probably should). Does anyone have any recommendations for an insole to stick in my shoe to make the space go away (I have insoles in a lot of my dress shoes so this phenemonon is not something new)? Would something as simple as those old odor eaters work?

Information, so you can skip this advice:
1. I am tying my shoes very tight
2. I have a velco strap over the knot which I pull as tight as possible.

If you are having no other problems, try those odor eaters to "eat up" some of the space. There are also metatarsal pads you could try inserting to just fill the toe space or you could cut those odor eaters in half and use them to fill toe space.

You could try thicker socks; I am a woman and am wearing men's shoes and find that thick, cusioned wool hiking socks fill up my excess toe space well though someday I will buy some women's specific shoes--if they come in my big foot size. The wool socks are nice because they clean well, don't stink, keep my feet drier and I can turn the tops down for that "bicycle" look.

If you are a man with very small feet, have you tried on women's shoes?

Or maybe odor eaters AND thick socks?
