I aquired a veloce UT crank and I am thinking about installing it on my san jose SS. I am currently using 130 surly rear hub.
Is there any reason I cant just take off the 53 ring and use the 39 for my SS? Any potential issues?

You should probably get some single speed chainring bolts. They are shorter to take into consideration the missing chainring. Might cost you $5 for cheap ones or $20 for something nice.

might run into some chainline issues, but probably not anything to serious
