Mountain Biking - Giant NRS seat post

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The giant web page recomends a 27.2 seat post. I have one in there but I really have to crank the colar down to hold it in, It seems like it should take a bigger seat post to fit right. Anyone have a bigger seat post in one of these frames? and how big is it? 30.9? is there anything in between?

Many Giant bikes are spec'd to use a 27.2 seatpost with a 27.2-30.8 seatpost shim. You can buy them online or at your local Giant dealer. I have heard of some people who run a 30.9 seatpost without any trouble, but I like to stick with what the manufacturer says.

yea I just dont like the idea of using a shim, seems like a cop out. Like perhaps they designed the bike for 30.9, but got a good deal on a bunch of 27.2 so they got some shims instead of doing it right. Ill see if the bike shop will try to stuff a 30.9 into it and see if it will fit for me.
