I just had my rr. wheel re-built to include a new Shimano XT hub. I had great luck with the previous one with roughly 20K miles on it before the cones became too worn and needed to be replaced. Within a week of the installation, I noticed a creaking/clicking noise coming from the wheel-not dissimilar to the noise the old hub made. Eventually I returned to the shop and the hub was re-adjusted and re-lubricated. That lasted all of 2 days, now the hub is creaking mercilessly. I told the mechanic and a re-build kit was ordered, he'll install it soon. Is anyone aware of this problem? I've always been impressed with Shimano quality but, this is ridiculous. I'm not even confident in the reliability of the re-build. If it continues to occur, should I ask for a complete replacement or, just go with a high end hub like a Chris King or Phil Wood???

So why didn't you just buy new cones instead of a new hub?

Evidentally, it was an older hub and replacement parts are no longer available.
