I have the trekking bars on my bike now, but I'm kicking the idea around to switch to Midge bars. I can get a little farther down, when I'm riding into the wind. I wonder if my trigger shifters and brakes would work on bars like that?

No. Midge bars are designed for road components. They are also designed for offroad riding in the drop position, requiring a tall stem to put the curve of the drops up where a flat or riser bar would place your hands.

I use the similar Origin 8 Gary bar on my dual purpose rigid MTB conversion, Kemo Sabe. They work OK for short road rides and they work well on trails and dirt roads. I wouldn't want them on a road bike.

I'm finding myself using the LHT on fireroads more often so I ordered Midge bars to see what they're all about. I've seen Midge bar set ups on LHTs and CX bikes and most say they're comfortable on the road as well.
I found 1 US retailer who had them in stock. I didn't realize these particular bars are not as available as they used to be when I started shopping around for one last week.
