Northern California - SF bay area -> Tahoe?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I found a thread on SF-> Sacramento, and one for Auburn -> Tahoe, but has anybody tried riding from SF to Tahoe? If so, what route did you take, how much climbing, how long did you take? Just an idea that's been kicking around in the back of my mind for awhile. I was wondering if it was reasonable. Thanks!
I haven't ridden to Tahoe but I have ridden the ACA Western Express Trail to Carson City from SF. You take the ferry to Vallejo and ride to Sacramento, then get the American River Trail to Folsom. From there, it is uphill to Placerville. From Placerville to Carson Pass (8574 ft.) is serious 3.5 - 4 MPH uphill for 60 miles.
At the junction of 88 and 89, you would take the Tahoe turn-off and go over Luther Pass Rd, which I've never ridden.
You can read my journal of this ride here (http://www.biketouringtips.com/bike.journals/SF2CarsonCity/index.htm).
