We had some not so bright locals try a little different twist on Craigs List the other day.

I think he just got the decimal point in the wrong place. I would consider giving him $120.00 for it.

Craigslist can be quite entertaining. Here is the text from an ad in Pittsburgh. Not only do you get to buy a bike but you can "hook up" with the product of Ted Kennedy's No Child Left Behind education:

ok i will be moving in two weeks so for someone out there they shall get hooked up, i cannot bring this bike (k2 mountain bike shocks all around road less than a month paid 6 plus but willing to take a loss, you name a price it is yours i can meet you in the city,

also i have a ban new easton wheel set i paid around 340 for again i cannot take them with me name a price, i am willing to make a deal. these wheels never road on.

I think you also got the decimal point in the wrong place, $12.00 would be a fair price.
That hurts just to look at.

I do love Seattle Craigslist.

Just did my morning check, and found this - seller claims it was ridden in the Tour de France by a "professional" bike racer:

I think the bike shown in the original ad is a classic example of why a wombat of my girth should not purchase one of the modern bicycles constructed in the now popular, hydrocarbon based, plastic composites. Clearly, if one of my ferrous based steeds been constructed of such an inferior material, it might not aquire a configuration shown in that advertisment without considerable coercion.

Note: I'm used to seeing carbon fibre bikes carry a warning that the max weight is 85kg, whereas this wombat weighs in at 105kg. Yes, I'm overweight but not stupidly so and I recognise that the idiots placing these ratings on bikes are the same idiots placing stickers on mountain bikes that say "not for off-road use".

Stuffit: If you're silly enough to forsake steel for tupperware, you deserve everything coming to you ... which, of course, includes reduced weight, theoretically increased stiffness, added bling as well as the more commonly acknowledged 'wank factor', inability to carry a load, fragility (despite strength) and all the rest of the carry on that makes arguing about frames so darned exhilerating, not to mention pointless.

That ad would have more credibility if it had a photo of the SUV that converted that once fine bicycle into the collection of hydrocarbon waste it is today. BUT, of course, I ask to much. It is, after all, well after midnight as I post this note and the bottle of red vino is too close to being empty for my observations to carry any credible weight, not to mention the sadly uncompleted state of the university assignment due up tomorrow morning

If it's Friday night, it's time for bike thieves to be holding mass sales of bikes at Seattle campuses...

http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/bik/883307441.html

Then there is this warning posted a few minutes later: "Warning, these guys are meth heads."

The kooky thing is that next to these wacky sellers one also sees beauties like this:

Oh, I don't know, a little super glue, some duct tape, a little slime in the tires, I'll bet someone could get that little C'Dale puppy up and running again.

Or not!

I assumed the entire point of the original ad was humor, not a misplaced decimal point.

Did you ever think that maybe some of these craigslist items are fronts for laundering drug money? I do.

Do you ever think that maybe some of these craigslist items are fronts for jokesters?

Maybe the guy had a digital photo of his totaled bike (used for an insurance claim after an accident) and decided to have some fun with it. Maybe he's even a BF member, reading this thread right now and laughing his backside off.

I perfer to think nit is a joke, but to my taste it would be an odd joke. I am afraid I starting to get like Basel Fawlty fronm the old BBC Fawlty Towers show.
