hi, i'm new here.. and i have a specialized rock hopper that was given to me. it's a pretty old model i think. but i'm thinking about upgrading the front forks to the ones with suspension. which ones should i get? also, is there a particular thing i should look for? i.e. lenght, diameters of the rods, etc?? someone give me some advise?? thanks!
i think it's cheaper if you just get a new bike... but having said that, there are ways to upgrade the forks. it may be a 1" threaded steerer, or it could be the modern standard 1 1/8" threadless steerer. if it's the old school 1" steerer you can find some used RockShox MAG forks as they were pretty popular back in the day. if yours has a 1 1/8" steerer then you can pretty much just find any fork that would fit. to fit a fork to a frame, the steerer diameter has to match the headtube on the frame. and the steerer also has to be longer than the headtube.
I agree, not knowing the age of the bike if it is a 1" steerer tube, a new bike might be a good idea, and use the one you have as a beater.
