Fifty Plus (50+) - Hey BD, should I buy it!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I think the bike deserves a better owner than I.

Seems a little high, especially with the big dent in the down tube.

The price is but a mere bagatelle to a high roller like Tom Bombadil.

It is just a matter of taking a stroll in me forest and findin' some gold under a rock or tree root.

What dent in the down tube? I don't see it.

The sad story is that I could have bought a couple of bikes with the money I had to spend recently on two unexpected car repairs and an unexpected home repair. Set me back $1800. Annoyed the heck out of me.

Not to mention someone with better sense than to pay $800 for a mass-produced Japanese bike. For that kinda money you can get the real thing: a full-campy DeRosa or Colnago. Ack...choke... I can't believe I called a "Clone-doggo" the "real thing".... Let's just say you can get a really nice Italian bike (Grant's inspiration for the RB-1) for less than 800 clams. THis whole "Saint Grant" thing is so far out of control it isn't even ridiculous any more. I mean, come on - the guy doesn't even spell his last name right!

For example, someone who would actually ride it.

My thoughts exactly. :)
As for the bike, it's a good one. I should know. I've been riding a '92 RB-1 for 16 years. That one looks to have all the original components* (for whatever that's worth - I've upgraded mine a couple of times). The price is absurd. I paid $900 for mine - new in 1992. The current high bid ($430 plus $99 shipping) is more than I think it is worth.
<edit> * Original shifters were Shimano bar ends

Those 'dents' are 'shadows'?

What dent in the down tube? I don't see it.
Look just above the right shifter and you'll see a small spot. If you can blow up the image on your screen, you'll see that spot is in the middle of a dent which was probably caused by the front brake caliper slamming into it during a crash.

Hard to say if it is a dent or not. I don't think so, but if I was interested in overpaying for the bike, I would ask the seller about it and ask for closeup photos of the area in question.

FYI, I was in my LBS a couple of weeks ago and they showed me a Bridgestone MB-1 that they had repainted to original specs at the owner's request (my LBS is also home to Davidson Handbuilt Cycles; they build, restore, and repair frames, too).
Cost of paint job: $800.
It was a nice paint job, though.

Nope. It's yellow. Everyone knows that red bikes are faster :D
