Southern California - 118 from Moorpark to Ventura

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I live in Thousand Oaks and will be heading for Ventura this weekend. Since I am just getting back on the bike after several years off can anyone tell me how the road is going down the 118 from Moorpark to Ventura? It should be very early Saturday morning so I would think Traffic will not be an issue.
Thanks

The shoulder is narrow to nonexistant. Cars and trucks will pass at very high speeds and very close. There is a slight grade usually into a headwind that will keep you from going very fast. That said, I have travelled this road many times. Fortunately it is not very long, I think about 20 miles. At the end, the 118 will turn to the right. Stay on the 118 until you get to Telephone St. and then turn left. This will take you to downtown Ventura.

The 118 is pretty sucky, but doable. From T.O., why not take Pleasant Valley road to 5th to Harbor?
I usually go the other way, either through Santa Paula over Balcom, or through Oxnard and over Potrero. I would recommend going either of those ways.
Thanks Guys, all good info. I went through Oxnard and had a great ride.
