Fifty Plus (50+) - Looks like Monday (10.20) is the day.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

That's the plan, anyway.
I've talked about doing a metric to the point of absolute ennui.
But right now I'm getting my head wrapped around the concept and Monday looks like the day.
Since I'm doing this as a health commitment to my employer, it only seems fitting to take a day off from work to do it. Wish me luck. Yahoo.

You won't need luck, SKT....piece of cake, for you, or should I say, PIE?

Have fun!

With pay I hope. Good Luck and enjoy it.

Cool! Have you picked out a relatively non-challenging route? I know there is no such thing as a long flat ride where you live, but you don't have to include the nastiest climbs around when you are extending your distance. Have a great ride. :thumb:

Some kind of PIE would be great. Even better is that Mrs S is taking me out for a nice dinner ($$) the weekend after I complete my ride! :D :D

You'd better believe it... though a day on a bike with no pay has to be better than a paid day OTJ.

"No such thing" is right :(

Unless I want to drive to the top of the hill before I depart -and I just won't do that- I've got to do the 200' to 85' to 680' thing the get out of town.

After that, it's pretty flat or downhill. Coming home has a fair bit of climbing but I can handle that. The whole thing will be to combine 2 two rides I've done before and the second part I do in town 2 or 3 times a week. Now that I'm doing a 1.3 mile 7% climb regularly, I see that as good training.

I plan to go pretty slow and easy where I can (as opposed to really slow and hard uphill), this metric'll probably take as long as an Imperial for most people. And I'm OK with that... besides, maybe I'll surprise myself. Call it my "Ride of Truth"

I wish you could join me... this is one time that riding alone might not be as much fun as with someone else.

Just for grins, here's a profile comparison of the 3 routes I can take from house up to where I can get out of town...

OK- I'll get Monday off work- I haven't had a Long weekend for months.

Can't get to where you are but I'll start at 10am. You can start whenever you want.

So Monday 20th Oct and you will have one Virtual rider.

Any one else going to do a ride to help SKT? Just do a 10 miler and it'll only take 6 1/2 of us to do the distance.

If the weather is right- I'll do the 62 with you- If not- I'll do 20 miles for the PIE.

Good luck ... I'm confident you can do it.

But if you are going to leave at 9, why must you get up at 7?

This leaves me time to get up, wake up, get dressed, have a GOOD breakfast, some COFFEE and digest.
The food in belly does me no good at all but the fuel in my blood does.

I trust you will beat my time in doing a metric. I took 9 hours of real clock time, as I had both lunch and dinner during the ride. "Real" lunch & dinner too. I think I had a hamburger w/potato salad for lunch, and then had fried chicken & vegetables for dinner.

If I can do it, anyone can.

Takes breaks and drink lots of water and you'll be fine.

I'll post it now so you can see that you had some assistance on the ride.

Despite all my efforts- I could not get monday off work so charged up the lights and Set off for work at 5am this morning. 33 miles to work and I reckoned on 2 1/2 hours to get there- Breakfast and then be ready for work at 8.

Good plan but there was a headwind. 30mph headwind. Boy was that hard for the first 10 miles on the country roads. I then picked up a cycle trail to Brighton and got a bit of shelter down to the sea. Then it was another 11 miles along the seafront- into that headwind again.

Made it for 7.45 without breakfast but I was done in. I was planning to ride home- and with a good tailwind it would have been good but Rain came in and I was shattered after a days work. So you are on your own for the last half- I took a van home.

I have ridden back from work in the summer and it was fun. This morning was not. Too much traffic on the country roads. Where the he** do they work at that time on a Monday. The cycle trail was covered in debris and was a bit too close to a main road at times. And that nice little ride along the seafront finished me. I realised I was running a bit late so really pushed hard and it left me shattered all day.

When you do the 100 miler- make certain it is on a weekend but riding to work is not on for me right now.

Not much help, but I rode 6 miles 'with' you--the last mile in rain. Hope your weather was better.

Well-I was out there for 4-5 hours. I played 18 holes of golf on one of the most beautiful courses in NC on a picture perfect October day...........
