Hi there..
I'm building up a new rear Wheel with a Suzue Flip Flop hub on a standard looking 36 hole Vuelta Buffalo rim... I went to UBI's website and measured and did their spoke calculator, and ended up with a spoke length of 289.4...
my question is.... Does 289.4 sound about right ? This is my first time building a wheel, and just don;t wanna buy the wrong size
lemme know
Thanks
Jeff

I tried looking up the rim you have and it is no where on Vuelta's site, at least not here in the States, so I could not get the dimensions needed but just by guessing I would say that may be a bit to long. Unless the hub has very small flanges which I do not think it does.
I know that a Vuelta Excaliber FR with a Suzua (high flange) uses about a 259 with a 3x pattern on a 36h rim and wheel.
To be on the safe side you should take it to your LBS and they should check for you. If you by the spokes from them they should not charge you for the measure.

the hub itself isn't a high flange... the rim itself is probably an older style... more of a box rim... not deep at all...
thanks for the info... I might have to take it to the LBS

you may want to take a look in damon rinard's database of hub and rim sizes contained in his spoke length calculator. you can grab it at http://www.sheldonbrown.com/rinard/spocalc.htm no guarantees that the necessary info will be there, but it's worth a look...
make sure you dl the full version - the express version doesn't have the database. it's pretty simple to use - i used it a couple months ago when i built my first set of wheels for my fixie project.
good luck!
Well without the rims ERD it would be hard to guesstimate a number for you especially down to the mm.

I did this when I figured out the spoke length thru UBI's spoke calculator... Just followed the directions, measured, and inputted in the numbers...
I just wanted to make sure that the number I got sounded right... I know there are a few wheelbuilders here who would know if I was in the ballpark :-)
thanks

That's what I am building for.. my fixie... I checked out Rinard's DB... but it didn't have my rims included... I think they are older Vuelta Buffalo 700C rims... old style box looking rims... if I could find an equivalent rim, it may help...
Thanks

Sounds close to me. the drilling circle about 45mm?, flange spacing around 30mm(from center)? and rim diameter (to the inside of the drilling) 604mm or there abouts? You should be close, go up to the 290mm spoke.

Rev.,
I don't have the numbers in front of me (at work) but that sounds about right...
Thanks for the help... Being new at the wheelbuilding thing, I wanted to make sure I was on the right track, and not getting numbers that were WAAAAY off... I think I will go up to the 290mm spacing :-)
Thanks again :-)
