24 Oct. I plan on riding Sherborn to Concord, MA then angle over to Burlington then as direct as possible to Durham, NH. Should be 90 miles. I'll stay on Rubel's (bikemaps) green roads.
Riding back 26th. Tips?

Are you taking NH 108? If you can avoid Haverhill you should (except for the brewery) but 108 is smooth, great riding. On a Boston-Conway trip two years ago we made sure to stop in Durham both ways because it was so awesome. Have fun!

gonna be cold. I just put the bike back together. This week my seat post broke. Tonight I hacked, cut peeled and pried the carbon post out, re-installed the bottom bracket and a new, cheapo aluminum seat post.

Due to a calamity of seat tube related repairs beginning Thursday afternoon, including the return of a borrowed bottom bracket tool to my LBS at 11PM, I escaped to the open road 11AM. I mediated between the GPS and my brain during the ride north. As I (we) approached Waltham Brain asked me for the map I left it at home. GPS jumped at the opportunity to take the helm and coerced my route to the east side of Rt. 128 through industrial park traffic, construction and mayhem. I took over and led us down a dead end street then lost the handlebar to Brain. Brain thankfully took us a slightly longer, far more peaceful route west on Trapelo Rd. then east of Hanscom to Wilmington and Rt. 62 north to Rt. 125 on up through Haverhill and 108 to NH. The pavement resurfacing rattled the residual piece of carbon stem but the ride was surprisingly clear of heavy, "city" traffic. Rt. 108 isn’t a back country road and has bouts of traffic but pleasant. With trusty Rubell's I bet I could have found even quieter roads but it was fine. Exeter is a magnificent mill town overly discovered by touristas and parents of private school kids. My wife met me at a roadside inn in Durham about 6PM.

Saturday we "Parents Weekend" -ed, hung out with our daughters 'hood and went to a rowdy hockey game, walked, shopped talked and dined. Sunday brunch then I hit the road at 11:45AM and Garmin recalculated almost every southernly turn as I insisted on taking 108 to 125 to 62 to Concord, MA. From there I took familiar back roads through West Concord, along the Sudbury River back through Wayland Natick, Wellesley, Dover, Medfield and snuck in to Sherborn at dusk. 100.5 miles each leg.

Our aging dog celebrated with bladder related enthusiasm. In fairness to the dog, I do think it was exciting so how can I get upset? Still, it is kinda like Lindbergh sweeping up after his own parade.

This summer I did various segments of Rte 62, from Maynard to Danvers and I thought it was a great cycling road. In about three decades of riding around Metro Boston, I don't recall riding it before, but most of my cycling is to the south and west, in areas likely well known to Sherbornpeddler. It was nice to find new locales.

New locales is right and long routes like 62, 125 and 108 are easy to follow and rider friendly.
Rubel maps are good but I am not a fan of stopping for reading glasses, folding and forgetting routes.

Locales deserving another thread, buddies showed me fantastic routes around Franklin-Diamond Hill-Blackstone areas.

I occasionally get the Franklin-Milford Bellingham area; it's kind of congested, but Pond St in Franklin, and Rte 126 south of Holliston are nice roads.
