Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Any you guys buy parts from this place?

You guys ever shop here? I found it a couple of weeks ago looking for an Ultegra crank for my Lemond. It's an online ebay store. You can buy some of the stuff without having to bid with the 'buy now' button.

I found my Ultegra triple 10 speed outboard bearing setup with the bottom bracket included for $149!:eek:

Any other online store is $219 minumum 'without' the BB which is anywhere from $35-$60.

I looked lastnight and the price has dropped to $131 for the same setup, including double cranks. A few others for like $60. But I wanted the new bearing setup as it's s'posed to be sturdier for us big guys.

It's a Co in Wisconsin, same place as Trek. 5 days shipping by ground for $15, still a great deal!

Jus got my crank installed to day, sweet and perfect condition. New stuff, never used, just not the fancy packaging. Only pit is no mfgr warranty. But the seller says he will replace with a good set if any problems come up, or refund the money if impossible to swap. Gauranteed to work!

I received mine in a Trek box!:D

Theprices change so it's hit and miss like anything on ebay. This is my first online purchase. Guy has great reviews and a wellknown store in Wisconsin.

IS the shipping high? This is my first online purchase. $15 for shipping from Wisconsin to Cali didn't seem much,, but what do I know.

However, when I first logged on to purchase, the total at the item description said $35 shipping. I hit the shipping modify button and it brought it down to $15 like the ad said!:D

I am not in no way. But yeah free shipping, bottom bracket included, and new otuboard style bearing set up? Go mine for $149. now down to $131 last time I looked (buy it now button, so not bidding), free shipping now? Sheesh, what else can you ask for!

I read several reviews and somewhere around 97% positive. I received my crnakset in perfect shape! Not a scrath, nick, ding, blemish, perfect. I replaced my existing setup cause it was weak and flexy beiseds the problems. The new setup is stiff and durable. Big difference under my weight at 245!

Just tiping the clydes, you won't touch a setup like this for less than $300. Crank is $229 online and BB's are about $40-$60.:eek:

If you have a Bontrager setup, you should look into it. I bought the Shimano triple,....and loving it!

A buddy of mine picked up a brand new Ultegra 9 speed rear derailleur from Wheel and Sprocket a couple of months ago for $30 on ebay with free shiopping. Neither of us could believe it until the deraileur arrived. I haven't seen one that low on there ever since. A few people I've met buy their stuff from there and swear by them. Maybe I should consider going to them too. However their low prices don't seem to be consistent across their product line. It just seems that some of their stuff can be had at a number of LBSs for around the same price or less. I guess it depends on what it is you're buying.

I have gotten Dura Ace derailleurs at Supergo for $64 (no tax sales)!:eek: I picked up 2 at that price. I wish they were still around!:(

Nice. Wheel and Sprocket just went free shipping but they raised their Ebay "buy-it-now" prices by $40 ($279 for a previously $239 item that used to ship for $29). That's what I hate about Ebay shops; always dicking around with pricing and shipping costs and rarely matching-up with real online shop prices. :-(

I am presently building up a single speed roadie and am watching the eBay prices very carefully on wheel sets, cranks and BBs, and handlebars set-ups. In my opinion you're better off shopping their non-ebay online storefronts and taking the prices to your local brick and mortar shop. If the local can't get it to you for less than the online shop price including shipping, then go for it online. But with Ebay it's buyer beware and take it real slow. Do not be in a hurry to get your parts!

Anyone from Wisconsin is cool. I've been to their stores a few times, they seem alright. Possible some of their parts are sold cheap because they are components that came on new bikes, but were upgraded or changed when the bike was sold?

Everything is Trek here in Wisconsin. Of the 6 closest LBS's to me, Trek is the main brand at all of them, with a little Specialized thrown in.

The Alez I picked up for a song a few months ago had close to 5500 miles put on by the previous owner. He told me that next year I should consider installing a new BB for it. Well, I am a bit of a nut when it comes to owning anything completely stock. The need to modify or upgrade is nearly compulsive for me.

I decided I would upgrade to an Ultegra CS when I replaced the BB. That decision made I began to monitor Ebail pretty closely for a deal. Although $149 is a good deal; the lack of a guaranty kind of bothered me. I am also cash strapped so I passed on that deal. I reasoned that since I had all winter to find a deal Patience was warranted.

On Monday a fellow who had been re-listing his Ultegra CS sans BB at $100 for nearly a month re-listed again but at $50. When I saw that he had dropped the "Buy It Now" I could not resist. It should be here either tomorrow or Monday. :)

Then this morning while searching the Bicycle Mechanics Forum I noticed an ad for Jenson flashing at me on the right side of the screen. Curious as to how much a BB might cost there I clicked. Turned out their current sale also included BB's. I bought the BB and the Park tool to install it both for only $55, (BTW those guys over at the Mechanics forum gave me links to learn how to change a BB and the tools I would need).

So I managed to find the CS, BB, and installation tool all for under $120:D. A price even a cheap bastage like myself can afford.

Probably one of those, "mystery" trailer type deals, you make an offer for a given volume of goods, they load it on your trailer and you never really know what your going to get until you unload the trailer and check it. Sometimes you get lots of good stuff, other times you pack it all back up and call a scrap dealer hoping that the price of the metal is high enough that you at least break even. Of course what I mean by a trailer is a metal box 9' high, 9' wide and 53' long that has wheels under it.

I'm pretty sure that's the case. Either way, gauranteed to work, replacement or money back. All I know is that mine is Sweet, Perfect and Much better than the stock crank I had.:thumb:

That's exactly what I did Erwin8r! I have a 9 speed drivetrain but worried the 10 speed crank would have problems. I posted a few threads and consensus was it would be ok. I've been riding it and it's sweet, no problems!:thumb:

But I did replace the rear cogset and chain (9 speed) about a week before the new crank. Did this to avoid any chainskip that is involved when installing a new chain on worn cogs.

But yes, the 10 speed works great with the 9 speed drivetrain!:D

BTW, I did the samething to my Lemond when it was about 2 months old. It was the NON driveside crankarm. If this is the case, you may have a good bikeshop near with good mechanics. I paid about $20 to have a helicoil installed. They say it won't work for the driveside. Worked great for 3 years, not a problem. Only replaced the crank to upgrade the junk crank stock equipped.:D

I've never seen this on a crankset before and can only surmise that at one point someone tried to thread the wrong pedal into the wrong side. I couldn't get the pedals to "start," and when I thought one was started, I saw it going in crooked. If nothing else, the new 10-speed cranks look great! LOL!!

I've only bought cranks. Advertised as never installed. Who knows but not a nick, scratch, mark, scuff! I inspected very closely, no marks, grease on the spindle (?). Very nice and gauranteed to work!:thumb:

Thanks! I think I'll give them a shot and see how it goes. I'm not a huge stickler for little blems, etc., so I'm not too concerned about that. I just want threads to be sharp and true.. :D

Incidentally, where do you ride most often? I live in La Verne (not too far from you, apparently), and will at some point try to "latch on" to other riders... At the moment, though, I'm just trying to get to the point where I can go more than a few miles without having my heart blow-up.. :lol:

Ahhhh A LOCAL!:D.....In the evenings, I ride up Euclid Ave 2 or 3 times just to be safe in a bike lane with lights (15-20 miles).

During the day I will ride up Euclid, across 19th, towards the 15 and cherry Ave(30 RT). Sometimes up to Glen Helen Pavilion and back40 RT).

Couple of years ago I used to ride around Bonelii Park 3 or 4 times just to hit the hill next to the 210/57. (24-30 miles)

Also at Wilderness Park in Claremont for some MTB,not much anymore. 3 loops for 15 miles on the main road.

Sometimes form Home ( near San Antonio hospitol) to the tunnels on Baldy Rd (20 miles RT)

I'd like to ride towards LaVerne to hit up Bonelli again but the roads heading in that direction seem a little too tight with the heavy traffic. I think Baseline heading East is a bit wider, so I play it safe and stick here.

With the price of gas, I cut out driving down to Bonellli. But gas is dropping so who knows!:D



If you ever want to get together for a ride let me know. I don't race anybody and usually ride alone if not with Gina. Only cause I hate keeping a schedule for regular rides (clubs). I like to jump on and take off whenever!:p

Only on the weekends I will keep a schedule to ride with Gina and see friends at the coast.
