I am looking for a mechanic that can do a good job either fixing a wheel off my Centurian LeMans or helping me replace it. I had stopped by performance bikes because it was late and I thought that they might be able to help me. Well, I have to say I was very disappoinated by there lack of service, inablilty to fix my wheel, and non existent communication as to why they could not fix it (besides saying that it was trashed).
I live in the Pflugerville area, so it would be nice to find a mechanic int the north/central Ausitn area. But, I am not opposed to traveling if necssary.
Thanks for you suggestions!
You might want to try the Bicycle Sport Shop on N.183 just North of Braker. I've never left my bike there for service, but the techs have been very helpful and they always have the parts I want in stock.
If you don't mind coming into town a bit, I highly recommend the Peddler on North Loop just west of Duval. http://www.peddlerbike.com/shop.cfm It's a great neighborhood shop, has very quick turnaround times for service, and has never tried to sell me things I don't need. I would definitely take a vintage Centurion to them before I took it to one of the Carbon Fiber racer boy* shops. Good luck!
*not that there's anything wrong with that.

Thanks to this thread, I just went to the Peddler for a tune up on a bike that's been sitting for years. My experience was exactly as it was described here. I visited the majority of the shops in town and all of them had a 3-5 day turnaround and higher prices than I was quoted at the Peddler. I took the bike in at 11am and they called at 4 to tell me that it was done. Tune up, new tires and they put a rack and panier bags on that they also sold me for a very fair price.
Excellent service. Highly recommended. Thanks for the tip!

Great! :thumb:
We've got to figure out how to spread the word just enough that they get lots of business, but I can still get same day repairs. ;)

I second (or third, whatever) the recommendation for The Peddler. Aubrey (the owner) has always been extremely helpful in sourcing parts for my insane bike builds and their wrenches know their stuff, especially the shop manager, Ron. I had these guys build a set of wheels for my IRO fixed gear
about a year and a half back and I regularly do riding I shouldn't do on a 700c skinny tired bike (curb jumping, trails). The wheels have never gone out of true. I can't say enough great things about The Peddler.
