Cyclocross - Sub-forum

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Can somebody tell me why there is a Cyclocross forum and a Cyclocross Racing sub-forum?

I had a cyclocross bike well before I considered cyclocross racing, so I know there is some difference between the two, but as cool as CX bikes are, do they really need a separate forum? How has it played out in practice?

I'm just trying to understand the layout.

there is a difference when it comes to asking questions about setups when it comes to racing and not racing. For instance, if I am going to ask about a SS race bike I am going to do it in the race forum where people are more likely to factor in things like weight and wheel spacing availability.

Its also nice to have a place to just post race stories and what not without clogging up the normal forums.

is it any different than the road bike and road racing subforum?

but really why do you care?

Mostly I'm just curious.

I don't think the road bike and road racing is a good parallel, because there's an awful lot of road riding that is specifically road riding but isn't racing. I commute on my cross bike, but if I want to talk about that I go to the commuting forum. If I want to talk about riding my cross bike on the local backroads, I go to the road bike forum. Etc.

It doesn't seem like either forum gets enough traffic to clog anything up.

Anyway, it's no big deal. Like I said, I was just curious. I see plenty of racing related posts here, and I wondered if there was some historical reason for the split.

nah i think it was just a big push of excitement leading into last season that had us request a subforum.

i see your point about the bad parallel but I still like to think racing warrants its own section.

Like Lithuania said, each of the other forums such as Mountain biking and road biking have their own subforums for racing. Makes sense. If I was only interested in racing, I'd hate to have to wade through questions about putting a rack on or is this bike good for commuting threads.

I'm going to start lobbying for a racing sub-forum in the commuting section. :thumb:
