ok...so i can swim...but i've never really trained at it or tried to improve my technique. i just sorta try to make it through without drowning...and then do what i can on the bike and run!

but no more! this winter, that changes! i want to start training in a pool proper. but how? do i get a swim coach? join a swim class? i noticed that my local YMCA has adult swim 1, adult swim 2...and private instruction where it's 1-on-1 or 2-on-1. then...they also have a class called triathlon swim.

what? is swimming for a tri different than swimming not for a tri?

i'm such a hack in the pool. someone point me in a direction!

thanks!

are you crazy?!?!??! without the kickboard? you sadistic *******!

but seriously...where do i turn to go from a guy that simply 'survives' the swim leg into someone who actually hold their own on the swim leg?

I would go with the triathlon swim class, it probably it teaches sighting and freestyle technique. I bet the adult swim classes are a bit more generic. talk to the instructor to find out. having other people watch you who know what their talking about is the best way to learn

Also read TOTAL IMMERSION for starters - it's pretty helpful if you're clueless to begin with (like me)

Or take up Duathalon instead of Tri.
