Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - First Flat this Season

I had my first flat in a long time last week. I was on the return leg of my commute when my front tire blew. I was lucky...two minutes earlier I was going pretty fast down a hill. The inner-tube had a hole at the base of the presta valve. I think I might have tightened the nut too much and stretched the rubber. I carry a spare tube and tools so I was good to go (just a little out of practice, plus the first time I used a frame pump). The great thing was that 4 cars stopped to ask if I needed anything.

Keep the nut loose, if you even bother to use it. I do on my road bike, but once I have enough [ressurte in the tire that it isn't needed, I loosen it up to prevent this occurrence, exactly. On my fixed, I don't even bother, since I'm not using a deep section wheel on the FG.

I got so much practice changeing flats this year I can do it without stopping now, if the traffic aint too bad. I bet I had, I dunno, 10 busted spokes and maybe that many flats. Since I got my new wheels and gatorskin tires I have had one flat, no spokes. Probably getting close to the same amount of miles. And that one flat was my fault. I said all that to say how nice it is not having flats all the time.

I air up my tires every morning.
I put the valve nut on the inside of the rim.
This keeps the valve from moving when the pump head is pulled off.
