Well. I did it. Fortunately, I had it for a two day test ride because another guy came in twice to buy it. Luckily for me the person that had it made is my size. I had to ditch the plastic saddle.

Well, the nice thing about it is I can send it back at anytime and get any decal and color scheme I want.

Gorgeous bike; a great find!
How's it ride vs. the old bike you had?

In terms of CF vs. steel vs. bamboo.....and this lovely machine: When I first started cycling in the early 80's, local riders were doing helacious rides and amazing feats that are still spoken of.......and on lugged steel, heavier bikes with fewer gears and more primitive components by far. Except for vanity, this bike would carry you well wherever and however. Great purchase--I'm envious.

I ONLY have three. On the Trek I added a rack and is my errand and grocery store bike. You can guess how it rides.
The second didn't have enough range for the hills around here. Stock was 14-24, 42-52T. I changed it to a 14-28 which helped. It's a great ride on flats and rolling hills.
The Waterford adds a whole new dimension and makes me smile too.

Sweet bike. I predict that you will have that bike a long time. On the pics above you have your seats really low. Are the bikes big for you or do you have long arms?.

My arms are somewhat long but I am more comfortable on a little larger bike. The one inch rule does not work for me and never did. An off the rack bike with a full one inch standover clearance is too short for me and I feel like I'm stuffed into a shoe box.
However, I have raised the posts since these pictures were taken.
There is nothing like a lugged steel frame, and Waterford is a great pedigree. Nice bike!

I won't....I guess the guy ordered it that way in case he wanted to tour but he never did. From what I understand he ordered it and shortly thereafter switched to bents. He sold it because he never rides it.
Good idea about contacting the shop.

He's a pretty smart guy!
I love my Waterford! I've put a little over 47,000 miles on it since Nov. '01.

What a pretty bike!
I love the classic lines of steel bikes like this. It makes me think "N+1."
I hope you enjoy many flat-free miles on it.

I didn't know 853 steel tubing has been used in bikes for more than 10 years now. I must be getting old. :o The bike looks like new! Nice find. :thumb:
edit. Reynolds 853 steel tubing started to appear in bikes in 1997.

Yes, a B17 narrow. It had a Specialized on it and that was the first thing to go. Even a new Brooks is more comfortable than the old saddle....at least to me. I think I'll put on some black Brooks bar tape before next summer.
Thanks for all the comments, I'm getting quite attached and it will be my favorite ride for some time to come. Bike was built in 1998 and not a scratch on it.

Yes, it's a Campy 8 speed.....which group?...getting back into cycling after a 34 year hiatus, hope that explains my lack of terminology. Record racing triple, is that the question?
You have 3 beautiful bikes. Congratulations on your great new find!

From you picture, I couldn't make out the word on the crankarm.
Record with the racing triple rear deraileur is sweet. I had a Chorus 9 sp with triple that I upgraded to 10 speed. The 9 speed will go on my next frame purchase.

Was the bike completely refurbished or is it just that it was kept in such great shape? It looks new and sweet. Best of luck with it.

What you see is what came out of Waterford........no restoration. Apparently is was built for a local attorney who switched to recumbents. He wasn't riding it and decided to sell it; my gain, he's happy, I'm happy, and it's a dream to ride.
Just came back from 20 miles on the Little Miami bike trail today....I know..... I'm over 20 but I'm working up to my age and I'll get there but maybe not before the first snow. So all of you century guys be easy on me.
BTW, any Cincinnati riders interested in pie at the Schoolhouse restaurant in Milford?
