Foxys Fall Century…Really FOXY!

Hightlights…The good; Lot’s of Foxy Ladies!
Lot’s of Orange…I am digging that color : )

Great Music at lunch! “The Brother From Another Planet” Alan,
was kickin the mix with some great music at lunch. I had a hard time leaving and ate way too much food. Alan’s the guy who rides around the city with the big music speaker trailer for “Critical mass”, “Embarcadero Sundays” and other bike functions around the bay area…I told him I’d give him a shout out!
http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa292/taxi777/Alan-1.jpg

The Bad: Two of our BF Ladies on the injured reserve:
Tricia “My little Pony” messed up her knee with a saddle mis-adjustment that didn’t get corrected in time before it did some damage.
http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa292/taxi777/Trica-1.jpg

Deb “Red Rider” took a serious spill in her home and busted up her ribs…She still forged ahead and entertained us last night with great food and conversation. She and Chris really made us feel welcome and we all had a great time!
Hope you two get better soon…We miss you already : (

The night before the ride we had a nice little meet and greet at Chris and Deb’s. Entertainment was provided by their kids Bo and Oliver…No Pict right now, I have to dig out my other camera somewhere in my bag!

Here’s some picts for now and I’ll put up a detailed report tomorrow…

Great pictures as always Pete.

This was the most fun I ever had on a bike, thanks for putting up with that giant sucking sound coming from behind you while I clung to your wheel all morning!

You helped me get off to a fast start which was key to my 6 Hours 10 Min for the 106 miles. Personal Best!

Hanging around last night and on the ride home was a hoot too, thanks for coming on the road trip.

Be well,

Lance

Fun photos!
My Lil Pony is off to do a charity walk this morning, and I'm hoping her knee issue was just a short term saddle height issue.

It's always fun to see Pete blast between rest stop, then chat up the lasses whilst making photos of everything. If I play my cards right I can time it so he passes me between every stop!

This was my first organized ride, and I had a blast. I had signed up for the 100 mile route, but my friend and riding partner was a little sick... so to not push his health, we did the 100 km metric century - the longest single ride either one of us had done.

We both enjoyed Foxy's organization, food, route markings. This was one of the funnest days I've had on a bike, and I don't think the weather could have been any better (well, perhaps lighter winds as we headed south to the first stop).

I will certainly sign up for Foxy's next year and look forward to other organized rides in the region as well.

Huge kudos for seating pillows and packing rugs at the lunch stop.

Ahhhh..... a most excellent adventure.

Deb and Chris were gracious and charming hosts, and a good time was had by all.

Dan is no longer "Lanceoldstrong". He is now "The Flying Dutchman".

All thing considered, my dorm-mates on this little soiree could've been worse.

Entertainment value on this road trip was through the roof.

I signed up for this ride with a friend so that he could complete his first century. We fell a bit short of that goal, but with a quick re-plotting of the course we managed to short cicuit the major climbs out, avoid the shame of the SAG wagons, and make it back to the start with about 80 miles under our belts. Not too bad a day on the bike, and the weather was perfect - mild temps with little to no winds, and nice scenery all about.

A very good day.

Well here's my report. Absolutely great weather, great friends, which = great ride. One exception was when we reached this one water stop and the guy told us they were out of water. "Out of Water?" :notamused: You put on an event and you don't have water? Go to the 7-11 you say? Hell I'll go and kill a rattlesnake use his skin as a bota bag and urinate in it. :roflmao2: Anyways enough of that. My friend Pat finished his first century after repeated attempts to give up. Problem was we wouldn't let him. Here are some pics:

We had ridden by the guy when he was in the ditch - it looked like he had taken the front wheel off and for some reason wasn't fixing a flat - he and a buddy were just standing there apparently waiting for SAG.

Then at the 62 mile lunch stop his wheel with fork blades still attached was in a trailer:

Ouch, maybe that's why Trek dropped LeMond... j/k!

Anyway... got to see Bigbossman and Pete but missed everyone else.

I rode with Thien (AzureBlu?), Andy (NeCro632), Eric (Airrix) and my buddy John. (We were sportin' the RBR kit and John in his CSC gear! hehe!) They were all Century virgins!! This was my second, I did Hotter Than Hell in TX in 2006 just before I moved back to the Bay Area but it still hurt like a virgin! doh!

Most of us were pretty geared up to do the 100k but Andy inspired us to do the Century. I gotta give him props, when he sets out to do something he follows through. So like lemmings, we followed him and we were glad we did. The route was really scenic. I liked passing through the vineyards but did not care for Cardiac Hill being after the lunch stop already 60-70-something miles into the ride. Maybe it was because we were told by some other rider that it consisted of only two moderate hills! The LIAR! LOL!

Anyway, congrats to everyone that completed their first century! And thanks to my little group that blindly agreed to suffer with me on this ride! haha!

PS - Sorry I didn't make it out your way Deb! I got to Fairfield around 9 and figured I'd be too late. Although talking to Pete on the ride I found out I would have caught you guys. Sorry to hear you got hurt. I hope you (and Tricia) heal soon!

Didn't that descent down from the dam and the tailwind all the way back make it worthwhile though!?

I was Time trialing it the last 20 miles and I felt great! I kept picking up wheelsuckers...and I was thinking...hmm I'm on a one speed?? The chickage was as thick as the foliage so I kept getting my groove interrupted by pretty smiles...I should have worn my horsey blinders!:o

It looks like everyone had a great time. The weather was sure fine, wasn't it? Chris and I had serious century-envy, but I was okay with it -- I was doing what I needed to do, and there's always next year. Heck, there will be more BF-organized rides, and those are becoming more fun than the club-organized rides.

We enjoyed our Friday with LOS, BBM, Pete and Goatbiker. Next time, Gary. Thanks for the pictures and the ride reports.

Hey, my husband is there in the background of one of your photos. At least now I know he actually did the ride and didn't just stop for beers in Dixon or something.

I rode the 50K with my 14-month-old daughter in a bike trailer. We had a lot less pretty scenery, no hills, and nobody to ride with. I think I'll wait to do it again until she is old enough to tow my lazy butt up Cardiac.

Thanks for the photos so I know what I missed.

Hey! I missed all of you guys... I was in line in the dark, got my wristband and took off at about 7:10. I was with one guy the first 25 miles but we didn't say a word to each other... Missed that turn at the railroad tracks right after the first rest stop following another group like a lemming and didn't realize it was the wrong way until Nut Tree Road. Tried to meander back to Midway Rd. or Cantelow but dead-ended at a Save-Mart Distribution Center. Rode off with another guy and eventually made it back to Cantelow after another DEAD END just as that group of Lemmings passed at the intersection of Cantelow. GOT LOST AGAIN following these guys (I was pissed, you know me I'm so serious all the time, ha!) We had a good chuckle and I ended up pulling them and a bunch of people for about 10 miles. The remaining 50 miles there were no hiccups because I rode solo until the Lake Solano stop where I knew how to get back with the map in my head. I passed this group right after leaving and they passed me at a wicked pace soon after so I latched and rode with them all the way to the end of Putah Creek. We were going 23-25 the whole time. I let them go at that T intersection but was so energized I wasn't far behind them the whole way back down Covell and caught up to them right at the end. Ended up meeting my goal even though I thought the course would be flatter. 109.85 mi in 6:15:58 averaging 17.7. Took a quick look at the swap meet and headed home to make it to a party/put a buddy's bikesdirect motebecane together... Good news. He already put it together minus the brake rotor needing torx wrench that neither of us had, so glug, glug went a couple of well-earned brewskis and zoned-out on some college football and horseplay with the tykes.
Great day. Sorry I missed you all.

This was the section where a carload of young hooligans yelled at us. They were going the same direction as we were and a guy in the rear seat opened his door while the driver drove in the wrong lane (farther away from us) and shouted for us to "go back to Davis" and some other very clever hate speech. They must have berated a couple dozen riders before they had their fill.

Not to make you feel bad but the little girl in the Winnie the Pooh helmet in the tri-tandem (not sure how to describe it when there are 3 people on the tandem?) said this was her 7th Century! The little punk!! LOL!

And honestly, if I can do a Century anyone can!! And although Andy was slow this was only his third ride since the birth of his kid earlier this year. (His previous rides were from 25-35 miles) So kudos to Andy(NeCro632) for completing his first century with hardly any training!

Although I thought I read that it was only supposed to have 2k ft of climbing! According to my busted 305 we were in the 4k ft range! UGH! Then again, it also said I burned 65,000 calories! So there is a little bit of room for error there! Double UGH!! Anyone have the stats since my Garmin is going back to the factory for replacement?

Better yet, anyone have a copy of the map they can post or forward to me? I lost mine and I'd like to keep it as a momento.

But of course. I downloaded the elevation data from MapMyRide and used a Y-axis scale that made it look a little tougher than it would otherwise. I've got a cleaner scan as PDF if you want - PM or e-mail me.

A three-seater tandem is called a triple, and my HRM says I burned 8100 kCal.

Everyone says, "Oh no we have to go up Cardiac" like it's some sort of death climb. I was disappointed. Sure, there were some 10-12% sections, but it never lasted more than 1/8th mile.

my HRM says I burned 8100 kCal.

Mine says I dropped a belt notch. I've probably had 200 grams of simple sugars today, most of that being glazed donut holes. I pushed it to THE MAXXX BAY-BAYYYYY!!! Countering the fatigue factor with caffeine.

Here's to a great full (extremely) season of riding NorCal. I don't think I would have done as much without your stories of inspiration (Pete's tooth getting chipped by rebounding cable lock aside of course :notamused: )

Sounds like the lead in for a NorCal Holiday Dinner?...Maybe something centralized? Oakland/Berkeley kind of in between that everyone can get to with out too much bother...We have a lot of "Heros" in the Forum...Racers that have done well this season, first time century riders, "Biggest Losers" that have worked really hard on losing weight, fraidy cats that have started riding on group rides and new faces! Lots and Lots of special characters. Many, many personal bests too! I can't believe some of the great stories and people I've met this year... Let's do something big!:thumb:

On the last 20 miles of flat the group I was with organized into a sweet rotating pace line. We were pulling 24-25 for about ten miles until I flatted out! I had to ride the last ten miles solo. I was so effing pissed.

I'm pretty sure I was in this paceline too. We were going good and I heard a couple people say that a buddy had flatted. We screamed back to Davis faster than I ever have before. That was the most fun I have ever had on a bike.

Could have been. We were rotating off to the left instead of the right, which I thought was weird. Same one?

Yeah, we were rotating left. I think that was the direction based on wind. I'm a paceline noob though. I was up front when it started and my friend just yelled at me to rotate. Sorry you flatted. Hopefully the rest of your ride went well. Before lunch I already had a broken spoke and a flat
