Yeah I hear that! Ohio is white too now; have about 1/2 a foot! Ever think all bikers should be in a year round warm climate? I'm thinking of moving just to make the sport more practical to enjoy while Im still young enough to do so. Life is way too short.

Bummer...

I got in 24 miles today, but it was kind of tough. The temperature was near 90 degrees F, but at least the redbuds were all in bloom, and the surrounding snow-capped peaks were nice to look at.

Despite its "faults" (get it?), life in California is pretty good...not that I'm gloating or anything :D .

You must live in the valley. It was a frigid 62' down here in the South Bay  Almost too cold to ride ;)

I WANT TO RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in your neck of the woods, and will be going out on the road this afternoon. I'm going away tomorrow and had a goal of 1,000 outsdie miles (need 61) before my family vacation. (No riding on this vacation...Disney and all my time devoted to the girls :) ) If Eddie can ride in this so can I ;)

Yes, I will be out on my Winter bike with 23's, but will be very careful.

If you want to ride bad enough you will! The only real bummer will be cleaning the bike afterward.

Go on out, just err to the catiuos side.

Funny, it was a "fault" - Northridge, 1994 - that got me to move away from the land of year round cycling after 35 years.

Redding is a nice place but it's hardly mainstream California. It's got the beauty but not the population nor the culture or business. It does have a really good speed trap.

I've always kind of saw it as the bastard child that resulted the night Sacramento and Portland got drunk together.

LOL - good joke. Redding is certainly not typical California. We're far off the beaten track, which is good for some things (e.g., buying a house with a view, and bike riding - road and mountain), but not so good for other things (culture and jobs). It's also bloody hot in the summer, and suffers from poor air quality at times due to the surrounding mountains trapping the valley air. But, for now it will do. Longer term, my fiance and I are considering moving up to Bend, Oregon...it's not as hot, has great recreational opportunities, and they're getting a 4-year university (they already have more culture than Redding).

He was referring to my neck of the woods (Redding). It's an aberation compared to the rest of the state...heavily populated with Republicans, cowboys, loggers, and Christian fundamentalists. When my daughter was attending high school here, I actually had to file official complaints against two teachers, in two different schools, who were blatantly promoting so-called "Creationism" in the classroom (i.e., telling the students that evolution was not real, and that the earth is only 6,000 years old!).

The local deaf community refers to Redding by making the sign for "red" and dragging their fingers down the side of their necks.

Fortunately, Redding has other fine qualities. It is surrounded on three sides by beautiful mountains, has good snow skiing an hour away, and outstanding cycling in every direction. Plus, it's one of the sunniest metropolitan areas in the US, has very low humidity, and rarely gets windy.

seriously-get warm clothes and thick tires, you won't go fast (and wouldn't want to) but you can get your mileage
