The old Boy Scout motto, of be prepared isn't one I've been living with. The commute today went from good to walking the last 4 miles to work. Oh, I had the tube for the tire, and the little plastic thingies to get the tyre off the rim, I had the wrench to get the wheel off the rear end, I had everything but the CO2 head for the cartridge. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
So with the help of a co-worker I got the wheel inflated at an LBS, and I was ready for the ride home, that's ready, not prepared. The forecast was calling for snow around 3am, and all night it looked like it wasn't going to snow at all. Well, I was right, it didn't snow at all. It rained. I'm not prepared for rain, no rain slicker, no booties for the shoes. I'm still carting around my winter gear, and now I find I'd better get around to carting around my spring gear, rain slicker, dry shirt socks, some sort of shoe cover, cause even if the rain that fell didn't freeze, a foot in a soggy shoe and wet sock, well, it gets down right frigid. I persevered anyway, with rain that changed to needling sleet/ice, that stuff hurts when it hits your cold face.
So, a new season of riding is upon us, the wet tempramental crazy weather of March and April, last night it was slush, tonight it's rain, tomorrow suppose to snow a little, and next week in the 40s we go. My projections for mileage on the year have me close to 5500. And if I work at it I can still get March in as a 1K month. A lot of work.

That's why I carry a frame pump. ;)

You certainly express an unfortunate uncomfortable sogginess. I'm not sure if this is due to the length of time you had to ride in the rain, choice of outer shell for your jacket, mind frame, or combination of these factors. I had a delightful 7 mile ride in the rain from 12:15 to 12:45. I wore a T-shirt covered by a thick goertex shell, regular shoes and pants, and gortex like mitten shells with liners. I also left work with a young woman who excitedly said, "I love the rain!" as we started off on our bikes. That probably had something to do with it.

I have four bikes and two pumps..ONce on the way to work I got about 60% of the way to work..Discovered I had no frame pump on the bike I was riding. Luckily I did not have a flat. No gas stations even on the last 10 miles into work. Just wine country. Carry an adapter to presta valve ,might save one from diaster, by just stopping at a gas station..
I try to now remember, NEVER take the pump off of my commuter bike for fear of not putting it back when I leave for work.
I just do not trust CO2. A good frame pump for me.

I slogged through 23 miles, it was fine about 12, when I pulled off the wet poly pro and hung the dry wool sweater on my body under the wind shell. I didn't have a place to change socks though, and slogged another 11 miles with water sloshing in the shoes. I suppose on a night like last night I could have used plastic bags over my feet and in the shoes. I have done that.
