Classic & Vintage - Help... my bike is stuck in (a) gear....

Ok so I decided to take my bianchi out for a test .... to make sure it is truely too large for me... and yes it is... but while I was out riding I noticed that I could not change gears... both of the thumb shifters are not doing anything... the chain is stuck on the small rings both front and back... What am I doing wrong? Or what do I look for to make them work?

I have 1994 campi veloce on my bike see attached photo link.

WD-40 the $hit out of 'em while vigorously shifting up and down.

You do realize that there are shift 'paddles' built into the lever, right? Those would shift from small to big rings. Also your brake release button is in the open position.

I think Campagnolo has manuals on line, perhaps it's time to RTFM, or visit the LBS (Local Bike Shop).

Try gently holding onto a section of the bare cable while you shift. If it isn't moving, the problem is almost certainly with the shift mechanism. If it does move, the problem is with something at the derailleur end.

doesn't work.... believe me I have tried.... what is the brake release button...

In addition to the paddles there are thumb levers as well... they get the chain to go back up the cogs... I believe that is how it is sposed to work... since the bike is too big for me I have not ridden it for a long time.... but after spending all this time on this site I had to take it out for a spin...

I am selling the bike so I can get a bike that fits so I can go ride and not sit here anymore... but in the mean time I can dream.... and get really motivated for when I do get the bike that fits me.

Hard to tell from the fuzzy pics, but the cables look pretty slack from the little I can see. The brake release is the button on the lever. You have it in the open position. RTFM

okj so I switched the little buttons what is that going to do for me? the thumb levers still won't do anything... they I think are the key... I think I will need to take it to my LBS

If you are on the small rings, the thumb levers have already done their job. You have to push the paddle towards the inside to shift to another gear.

Is there tension on the cables? If you tug on the cable manually will it shift?

ok so the left lever works the right lever does not work... however pulling on the cable did get the chain to move but then when I released the cable it just went back onto the smallest cog

snug up the cable to the rear derailleur.

ok so now you have completely gone out of my league... I think the LBS had better take care of this before I screw something up... you know bikes arn't like computers... I mess with the computer knowing that there is very little I can do to mess it up... well with this bike I don't feel the same way....

yes it is truely too big for me... I took it out today and well lets say I can't stand over the bar... I had to change out the original post to get one that would go down low enough so tha I could just bearly ride it.
